After purchasing some light blue and white bases on the cheap, there was only 1 team that sprung to mind to paint; Citeh!

Liverpool Away 1981-1982

I can't really say what inspired me to paint this team, maybe it was the challenge of painting stripes, maybe it was because I've been wanting to paint a yellow kit for a while.

I know the GK kit is based on a Puma design rather than Umbro, but I fancied giving it a go.

A few more Melchester Rovers kits

It feels like my blog is slowly but surely turning into a Roy of the Rovers homage rather than about painting subbuteo!

I've painted up a couple more Melchester Rovers kits; the first is from the 1950's era, the second is from the 1970's era.  Both kits have been painted up on Superfooty figures and bases which are available from http://www.worldtablesoccer.com/engine/shop/index.html 

Pulp Fiction

I've been after a subbuteo rugby set for ages; when the opportunity to get one on a swapsies basis arose I couldn't say no!  My half of the bargain was to paint up a team based on the classic Tarentino movie, Pulp Fiction.

I hadn't watched the film in a good couple of years, so when I finally found my copy on dvd I had to blow off the dust and watch it to remind myself of the characters and what they looked like.

Hopefully the painting below bares enough resemblance to the classic film characters!

I had a request to paint another Roy of the Rovers team; this time the 1986 kit on LW figures and bases.

A few more HW repaints

Slowly but surely I'm getting around to repainting some of my older HW teams in my collection for the start of my own HW solo league.

Rummaging through my older teams, I came across old Liverpool and Brasil teams that had seen better days.  Many of the figures in both teams had been broken and reglued back together.  I thought these 2 teams would be ideal to use for my repainting project.

I started to repaint the Liverpool kit first.  after completly stripping it down to the white plastic, I decided to repaint it once again in an all red strip, using gold as a secondary colour.  Using a chinese takeaway menu and an Inter Milan away strip from a few season ago as inspiration, here's how the team has turned out: meet The Golden Dragons!

The second team i had to repaint was the old Brasil strip.  This team had 6 out of the 10 players broken so I've replaced most of the team with new Santiago HW T2 figures.  See if you can spot the differences between the players!

I took quite a bit of time to think what kit to paint up instead of Brasil; with a green and yellow base combo it was quite limiting and I didn;t want to replicate a kit that I already knew of.  Then one night, whilst watching a re-run of the film The Running Man, I was inspired to the paint the team up as follows:

The team has been entered into my solo league with the name of "TFC Running Man". Hardly original I know, but fun all the same!

Repainting old teams

Repaint.  A word that's frowned upon in subbuteo collecting circles. Collectors hate repaints and rightly so.  Spending your hard earned cash on what you think is an original to then find out is a fake is depressing.

I've fallen victim to a few repainters myself (!).  My view is the best thing that can be done with repaints is to strip them down and start again.

I'm not one for trying to replicate the original strips or colours of the subbuteo catalogue.  I like to be creative with my teams, as you can probably tell from previous posts.  I will be starting my own solo league shortly so with this in mind I thought I would start to paint up a few teams for the league.

First up we have this team

When i forst got this team I thought it was a Leeds 2nd kit from a dodgy picture taken on eBay.  My punt on the team didn't pay off as the figures had been repainted in a lovely yellow humbrol paint.  After stripping the figures down, I found out that the team originally was a ref 3 - WBA.  Unfortunately i'd left the paint stripper on for too long and the WBA paint came off also. So I decided to use this team for a repaint of my own.

Here's the next team i've repainted

A very worn moulded ref 1 needed a new bit of life.  I was in the pub one evening when I suddenly had inspiration to paint this team. I wonder where my inspiration came from?

Finally the third team

I don't know what this team was originally.  When it came into my posession it was "rainbow coloured".  I think someone must have just decided to throw pots of paint over the figures to "create" a strip.  Having stripped away the bad paint job, I decided that i wanted a black strip.  The tricolour stripes down the middle remind me of Italy, not my intention!

So it just goes to show that if you get a repaint in your collection they can be turned into something worthwhile with a little bit of time and imagination!

There are a few Santiago T2 players mixed in with the teams as previous players had breaks.  Can you spot them?

Bologna FC 2011/12 2nd kit

Ah the rossoblù,  I had to give it a go; well actually I had to give their current away kit a go.  Despite only being founded in 1993, Bologna are the 6th most succesful Italian team in the league.  Not bad going!

....the first blog entry was entered.

Fantasy Flicker has been going for 12 months today. 

Just wanted to say thankyou to those that have helped to promote the blog and an even bigger thankyou to all who have looked at my posts.

Here's to the next 12 months.

Roy of the Rovers - Melchester Rovers

My mum used to buy me 3 comics a week when I was a kid; Shoot, Match and Roy of the Rovers.  Out of all 3, RotR was my favourite.

I painted up a 70's kit quite a few months back (can be found in an earlier post).  As I play my own subbuteo leagues at home, I thought it was about time Roy's men updated their kit.  So, with this in mind, and thanks to a recent purchase from a car boot sale for reference, Melchester Rovers have now been updated to their 1981 kit.

He-Man: Masters of the Universe

As you can probably tell from the majority of my posts, I grew up in the 80's and 90's. As a child I was a massive fan of He-Man. I must have had at least half of the action figures ....... I'm not claiming to have had all of them as I know I was at least missing Ram Man :( .  I remember playing with my mates and shouting "I have the power" at the top of my voice when we had plastic sword fights.  I even had the Prince Adam figure so I could turn him into He-Man when I shouted it!

I've been meaning to paint this team for the past 6 months; I just haven't had the time to do it. So, finally, here it is!
